Each work, priced at £6,550, embodies Ufan's signature approach—sparse, deliberate mark-making that balances tension and tranquillity. This series is a rare opportunity to collect multiple works by one of the most revered living figures of postwar Asian abstraction, bridging philosophical inquiry with formal innovation. With a recent solo show at Pace Gallery New York (2023), a major retrospective at the National Art Center Tokyo (2022), and works included in the collections of MoMA and the Tate, Lee Ufan’s market momentum is undeniable—making In Milano a timely acquisition for discerning collectors.

Lee Ufan, a founder of the Mono-ha movement in Japan and associated with Dansaekhwa in Korea, explores the relationship between mark, space, and time. In these works, each brushstroke—a unique gesture of black or beige—becomes a visual pause, engaging the viewer in a contemplative rhythm. The spatial arrangement of the forms on paper challenges traditional notions of composition and embraces impermanence and restraint. His motifs reflect philosophical ideas of emptiness, presence, and material essence, deeply rooted in East Asian traditions yet resonant within global contemporary discourse.

From an art market perspective, Lee Ufan continues to demonstrate upward traction. His Dialogue paintings have consistently achieved six-figure sums at auction, with a record set at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2022, where From Point (1974) sold for over HKD 20 million (approx. £2 million). With rising institutional attention and global representation by Pace Gallery and Kukje Gallery, Ufan’s work maintains a strong sell-through rate, especially in works on paper which offer a more accessible entry point for new collectors. At £6,550, these In Milano pieces are priced well below auction results for similar w... Read more

Investing in Emerging and Ultra-Contemporary Artists: A Guide for Collectors

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/investing-in-emerging-and-ultra-contempora

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/investing-in-emerging-and-ultra-contempora

Our guest curator, Jemma Elliott-Israelson has selected five international artists whose work exemplifies the potential for emerging talent to thrive. These artists, each distinct in style and approach, explore themes of identity, heritage, intimacy, and empowerment, making their works both timely and timeless. With strong gallery representation, notable auction performances, and increasing institutional acquisitions, this selection offers a compelling investment opportunity.

Quaicoe, represented by Almine Rech, has gained considerable market momentum with his striking, psychologically rich portraits. His paintings have achieved six-figure auction results, significantly exceeding estimates at Phillips and Christie’s. His work speaks to the power of self-representation, echoing the broader cultural movement of elevating Black narratives in contemporary art.

Brutus’ paintings, with their vivid colours and historical references, have positioned him as a key figure in storytelling through figuration. With consistently strong sales at Sotheby’s and growing collector interest, his work presents both aesthetic and financial appeal.

Chris Ofili, a Turner Prize-winning artist represented by Victoria Miro, has long been a cornerstone of Black British art. His market remains stable, with major institutions acquiring his work and paintings selling for millions. His intricate compositions, infused with Afrocentric symbolism, continue to resonate with collectors.

Sola Olulode, represented by Vigo Gallery, is an emerging force in the UK art scene. Her warm, textural works celebrating Black queer love are gaining institutional recognition, and her prices are steadily rising as demand grows. As collectors continue to embrace young Black British artists, her trajectory mirrors that of peers whose markets have seen exponential growth.

While these artists may not yet have established auction records, their growing presence in the primary market, strong gallery representation, and increasing collector interest suggest that their works are well-positioned for future value appreciation. At price points reflecting early-career acquisitions—these pieces offer a strategic opportunity to invest in artists with strong upward trajectories.

Why Now Is the Time to Invest

Rising Market Presence – Each artist has gained significant traction through international gallery representation and institutional exhibitions. As their profiles grow, demand is likely to increase, driving secondary market potential.
Early-Career Pricing Advantage – Acquiring works at this stage allows collectors to secure pieces at accessible prices before their market value escalates. Many established blue-chip artists once had similarly priced works in the early phases of their careers.
Diverse Art Historical Influences with Contemporary Appeal – These artists successfully merge elements of surrealism, geometric abstraction, and raw expressionism, aligning with current collecting trends that celebrate both conceptual depth and aesthetic impact.

Artist Market Insights

Pablo Benzo – Benzo’s surreal compositions resonate with collectors drawn to modernist and postmodernist abstraction. His works have been featured in prominent European and Latin American exhibitions, and his primary market value has steadily increased as demand rises for contemporary surrealism.
Michael Childress – Childress’ precise, almost metaphysical geometry places him in conversation with minimalist and spiritual abstraction movements, which remain highly sought-after collecting categories. His recent participation in curated ... Read more

Selection of Artworks | Private Collection, London

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/selection-of-artworks-private

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/selection-of-artworks-private

Running selection of works for auction consignment.

Artscapy x F&F

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/artscapy-x-f-f

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/artscapy-x-f-f

Artwork Selection for Alvaro

Artscapy Artwork Selection for Giovanni

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/-artscapy-artwork-selection-for-giovanni

https://artscapy.com/view-viewing-room/-artscapy-artwork-selection-for-giovanni

Reserved to Giovanni
