Biography

Born in 1987 in Ghana, Aplerh-Doku Borlabi is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Accra. A graduate of Ghanatta College of Arts and Design, he is known for his innovative use of coconut sheaths in his mixed-media portraits, symbolising his cultural heritage and exploring the complexities of Black skin tones. Borlabi's work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions such as "Uncaged and Watered" at Gallery 1957 in London (2023) and "In Our Nature" at Septieme Gallery in Paris (2023). His art has also featured in group shows like "Winner Takes All" at Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York (2022), curated by Amoako Boafo and Larry Ossei-Mensah.
