Biography

Yuya Hashizume, born in 1983 in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, is a contemporary artist renowned for his distinctive "eyewater" series. This series captures subjects in a poignant moment when a single tear falls from their eyes, painted against minimalist, single-color backgrounds in an illustrative style reminiscent of Japanese anime.

Hashizume began his career in the commercial sector, developing skills in branding and product design while working for an outdoor brand. His journey into the art world was largely self-taught, leading him to freelance as an illustrator and eventually hold self-organized exhibitions starting in 2016.

His works, which draw inspiration from the rounded forms and emotive styles of manga artist Fujiko F. Fujio, creator of Doraemon, explore themes of fiction and anonymity. Hashizume's exhibitions have gained significant attention, leading to solo shows in major cities such as Tokyo, Seoul, London, and Shanghai.

Notably, his recent exhibitions include "eyewater 2022" at Spiral Garden in Tokyo and large-scale solo exhibitions in Seoul in 2023. His art is widely collected and has been featured in multiple prominent galleries and art fairs across Asia and Europe.
