Laust Hojgaard
Biography
Laust Højgaard is a Danish artist born in 1989, known for his unique blend of surrealism, grotesque humor, and intricate detail in his works. His paintings often feature "misfits" or eccentric characters that challenge conventional ideas of gender, ethnicity, and identity. Drawing from influences like fashion, horror movies, and mythology, Højgaard’s work explores themes of human transformation and inner conflict.
He works with acrylics and phosphorescent paints, creating textured layers and distortions that give his pieces depth and vibrancy. His characters are spontaneous creations, born from abstract shapes on the canvas that evolve into figures with exaggerated forms. This impulsive approach is reflective of his broader artistic process, where multiple canvases are often developed simultaneously in his studio in Svendborg, Denmark.
Højgaard's work has been exhibited internationally, including in New York and Berlin, and has garnered attention for its mix of modern cultural references and mythological influences
