Joseph Justus is an American artist born in 1982 and based in LA. He initially studied and practiced architecture under Frank Gehry. His paintings reimagine the physical and conceptual landscapes that make up the city. Drawing inspiration from the urban fabric and the human body his work experiments with surfaces, architectures, and body that act as lenses or X-rays steadily moving in and out of plane. “We see one thing on the surface- skin, buildings- but I am interested in the complex currents right under the surface”. Justus has had several exhibitions in California and the States, and it is his first time showing in London.
