Biography

Cece Phillips (b. 1996, London) is a British artist who lives and works in London. She is best known for her large-scale narrative paintings that explore the Black experience, history, and identity, often drawing attention to stories that have been historically marginalised or overlooked. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Phillips draws inspiration from archival imagery, literature, and historical research to construct layered and evocative compositions.

Her practice has attracted growing institutional recognition. In 2022, she was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, a notable platform for emerging British artists. Since then, she has exhibited extensively, including in the 2025 group shows Interior Motives and The Shed, both held in London at Hauser & Wirth and Berntson & Bhattacharjee respectively. In the same year, she presented The Wall, a solo exhibition at Almine Rech in Brussels, an important milestone in her expanding international presence. Phillips’s work has been acquired by several prominent private collections, and with representation by respected galleries, her market visibility continues to strengthen.
