Kwesi Botchway

Born in Accra, Ghana, in 1994, Kwesi Botchway is a contemporary artist who continues to live and work in his hometown. He is renowned for his vibrant portraits that explore Black identity, beauty, and culture. Utilising acrylic and oil on canvas, Botchway blends elements of French Impressionism with African Realism, often employing purple hues to depict skin tones—a choice symbolising royalty and grandeur. His works frequently feature subjects adorned in both traditional African textiles and contemporary fashion, reflecting a fusion of heritage and modernity. Botchway's art has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in Ghana, the UK, Denmark, and Belgium. Notably, his pieces are part of esteemed collections such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. In 2019, he was nominated for the Influential Artist category at the GUBA Awards in the USA. Botchway's market presence is robust, with his works being actively traded and sought after by collectors worldwide.
