Biography
Mr. Brainwash, born Thierry Guetta in 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse, France, is a renowned street artist who gained prominence through his collaboration with Banksy in the 2010 documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop." Relocating to Los Angeles at age 15, Guetta initially ran a used clothing store before transitioning to street art, heavily influenced by his cousin, the artist Invader.
Mr. Brainwash's art merges elements of street art and pop art, often featuring iconic cultural figures such as Marilyn Monroe and Albert Einstein. His style is characterized by vibrant, large-scale installations and recontextualized imagery from pop culture and art history, echoing the works of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.
His debut solo exhibition, "Life is Beautiful" (2008), was a commercial success and garnered praise from Banksy. He has since designed album covers for major artists like Madonna and created art for various high-profile brands and events, including Coca-Cola and the Coachella Festival. Mr. Brainwash continues to live and work in Los Angeles, where he opened The Mr. Brainwash Art Museum in 2022, a space dedicated to contemporary art and his unique vision.
