Sarah Cunningham
Biography
Sarah Cunningham, born in 1993 in Nottingham, UK, is a London-based painter known for her dynamic, multi-layered works that explore the interaction between nature and human experience. Educated at the Royal College of Art (MA in Painting, 2022) and Loughborough University (BA in Fine Art, 2015), she creates imaginary landscapes using gestural brushstrokes and vibrant colour palettes. Her work often reflects themes of wilderness and fluid forestscapes, inspired by personal experiences, literature, and dreams.
Cunningham's paintings have been exhibited internationally, including at prestigious galleries such as Lisson Gallery in Los Angeles and London. She is recognised for her improvisational technique, often working nocturnally to create a raw, dreamlike quality in her pieces. She has received several awards, including the Ali H. Alkazzi Scholarship and the Djanogly Art Award in 2019. Her works are held in notable collections and have gained traction in the art market, with regular exhibition and sales activity.
