Derrick Adams

Derrick Adams (b. 1970, Baltimore, USA) is an American artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Working across painting, collage, sculpture, performance, and installation, Adams is best known for his vibrant, graphic depictions of Black life that foreground themes of leisure, identity, consumer culture, and the construction of self-image within American society. His work often incorporates bold colour, fragmented forms, and references to popular culture, celebrating everyday experiences while interrogating representation and visibility. Adams has received notable recognition, including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and has exhibited widely in major institutions.
