Biography

Aly Helyer (b. 1973, London, UK) is a British artist who lives and works in London. She is known for her distinctive and emotionally charged figurative paintings and works on paper, which often feature expressive, fragmented human forms. Working primarily in oil and ink, Helyer’s practice explores psychological states, mythology, and the human condition, drawing on influences ranging from classical art to outsider and surrealist traditions. Her imagery frequently blends the grotesque and the tender, creating compositions that are at once intimate and unsettling.

Helyer has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally, with solo exhibitions at venues such as Sim Smith Gallery (London) and Studio Voltaire. While her work is held in a number of private collections, she has yet to be widely acquired by major public institutions. Nevertheless, she has gained critical attention in respected art publications and is considered a significant voice in contemporary British painting. Helyer’s market is still developing, with increasing visibility and collector interest, though it remains relatively niche and less frequently traded on the secondary market.
