Biography

Born in Canada in 1960, Chris Levine is a British-based contemporary artist renowned for his pioneering work with light and lasers. His multidisciplinary approach spans mediums such as photography, holography, and immersive light installations, aiming to explore the fundamental role of light in human perception and experience. Levine's notable works include the iconic portraits "Equanimity" and "Lightness of Being" of Queen Elizabeth II, the latter featuring the Queen with her eyes closed, offering an intimate and contemplative depiction. His art has been exhibited in esteemed institutions like the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Science Museum, and is held in various private collections. Levine has collaborated with a diverse array of artists and brands, including Antony and the Johnsons, Massive Attack, and Asprey Jewelers. His works have achieved significant auction results, with "Lightness of Being" selling for £187,500 at Sotheby's London in 2017.
